Whether your child is a fan of the new Clone Wars animated film or the original trilogy, this light saber, with its light up blade and electronic sounds, is sure to be a hit. Its sturdy plastic components in gray, black, and gold, three colored crystals, and telescoping blade can be combined in over 1000 different ways to create a customized battle weapon. And since part of the fun is in thinking up ways to combine the pieces into a customized weapon, there’s no time-consuming adult setup.
You’ll need a Philips head screwdriver to insert three AA batteries (not included), and you may want to help young users put the color crystals in the first time around, so they know how to change them later on.
Imaginative Play that Spans Distant Galaxies
One of this light saber’s top features is the way it emits different sounds along with a different color light inside the clear plastic blade depending on what Ilum crystal or crystals are inserted in the handle. Choose the classic Jedi green, blue, Sith red, or combine crystals to achieve an effect like the violet light saber Mace Windu uses. Star Wars fans will immediately recognize the powerful humming noise that indicates a light saber ready for combat. And the variety of clashing sounds that the unit makes when the blade comes in contact with any sturdy obstruction is sure to thrill.

Overall, we had loads of fun creating a custom look, practicing crafty moves, and fighting off imaginary enemies with this light saber. Since the colored blade effect is achieved by projecting light into the clear plastic blade, playing with this light saber in a dark or dimly lit room provides extra drama and an increased dose of fun.
Because this toy calls forth an epic battle between good and evil, we imagine that having a playmate with a second light saber would increase the fun exponentially.

5 Stars Lightsabers Are Awesome!
Three friends of mine and I bought these about a month ago. We’re college kids and we’ve used them frequently. I know some swordplay and one friend taught himself a little. As hard as we hit, the sabers are still totally intact. I would completely wholeheartedly recommend these sabers to anyone who wants a little fun in their lives.

My grandson loves it, and his parents have been known to swish it around, too. I have one myself for annual costume parties (Luke Skywalker), and decided that it would be a lifetime gift for the grandkids who are Star Wars fans–thus justifying the expense.

This is a wonderful addition to the Master Replicas Force FX lightsaber collection. I have most of the lightsabers from that collection, and this one ranks right up there with the rest. In some ways, it’s better than one–the 1st generation Luke Skywalker green one is nowhere near as nice as this one. If you like collectibles of this type, this would make a great addition to any collection, whether you just sit it on your mantle or you (secretly) light it up now and then just to have a little fun. Either way, you’ll enjoy this!

4 Stars Use the expensive batteries in this one or it won’t work right
While my grandson’s reaction of jumping and screaming when he opened it on Christmas morning was very gratifying, disappointment set in shortly thereafter when the lights/sounds would not work consistently. We had Eveready alkaline batteries in the toy, but apparently you must have the Duracell-type super powerful batteries in order for this toy to work properly. It would be nice if they would state that on the box. However, when it does work, it definitely lives up to its promise.

4 Stars Exactly what you’d expect
It’s a good toy overall, solidly built and withstands the abuse of a 5 year old. It extends just fine when you push the button, and the sounds are a nice touch. To retract it, you push the end of it back in, which my son was able to figure out fairly quickly. The saber part has lights in it to light it up, but they aren’t very bright. They can only be seen when it’s dark in the room. I didn’t expect it to be bright enough to be seen outdoors, but I thought it would be bright enough for indoors.

This is an awesome sword! I have bought quite a few swords, but this is the best one that I have ever had. My brother and I have spent hours battling with these swords.

5 Stars My son is a Jedi Warrior!
Santa delivered this to my five year old son and this has been the biggest hit ever! He loves them! He wants to take them everywhere we go. We took it to the store the other day and a little girl in the store didn’t want to give it back to him. We had to chase her down. It has little clips that allow you to hang from your waistband and this is exactly what my son does! My husband, daughter and son have lots of fun having duels with them. What a buy at $[...] for two!!! Boys, girls, moms and dads…everyone loves them!
5 Stars Good for a 4-year old boy
My 4-year old boy likes it. A little bit too heavy for him but that does not bother him too much. The construction seems to be solid enough. The switch that releases the lock of the “blade” is kind of hard to move, but my son soon learned how to use it. It still often takes him two swings to extend the blade though.

5 Stars Perfect for a set of Brothers
This is very economical in that there are two light sabers for a very reasonable price. Both of my sons (6 & 7 year olds) love Star Wars. This was a combo Christmas gift for them from their sister. They have played with these continually. The sabers are well made and are perfect for Star Wars lovers.

This product is a complete waste of money. I bought this for my son and it literally broke within the first hour that we had it. The lights barely light up, it does not make sound, and the extended light saber parts broke off with not much force at all. You cannot play with this toy at all. It would only be suitable to look at and never touch. The price is entirely too high for such a waste of plastic. Don’t waste you money on this one. Keep looking.

This double-red light saber was the only gift my nephew really wanted for his birthday. But it was broken within minutes of opening it. The saber parts came apart, the light was very weak, and when he accidentally dropped it, the entire thing fell apart. It was a terrible disappointment and a waste of money!

5 Stars Awesome light saber
This is an awesome light saber! I have wanted one of these for almost 10 years. This was a birthday gift for me. My short background is I’m a 44 year old male, an engineer, I work for NASA, and a rock guitar musician, a fitness nut, and of course, a lover of science fiction. I have always enjoyed the whole Star Wars lore, the Force, Jedi Knights, and of course, light sabers! Darth Vader is by far my favorite character. My 5 year old daughter is also a big fan of Star Wars (she tends to like Padme and Leia and Yoda), and she has her own toy version of a light saber. My wife also thinks this is a pretty cool gadget. We have lots of good clean family fun with this light saber (if you call going head to head in a light saber battle clean fun!). I also bought this for very practical reasons, like slicing bagels (actually toasts the cut side of the bagel at the same time!), heating up a cup of coffee (just stick it in), home soldering projects, yard work (trimming hedges), making Smores for the kids (they love it), and cauterizing a deep cut (doctors are using these things in emergency rooms nowadays), and it doubles as a light and heat source if the power goes out.
This FX light saber is extremely well made, and it is certainly not a toy, per se, as this is something you will want to take care of. I like the power-up and clashing sounds and the motion sound, but my favorite is the sucking sound it makes when it powers-down - very, very cool. The hilt is very detailed and funny thing, being an engineer, is that you can tell it was made for motion pictures by piecing together some junk and spare parts - details that you would never see in the movie. It would be cool if it came with an explanation of the various buttons like controlling blade length, power alignment, etc. (only functional button is the power on-off slider). It is fairly durable for light to moderate clashes, but don’t strike it too hard as I am quite sure it would break if you beat on it too hard. Consider this a “Jedi in training” light saber, as it is not as powerful as a full-blown light saber, so good thing is it won’t cut a limb off if you accidentally hit somebody with it! If you don’t know how to operate a light saber safely, you should definitely take the light saber safety training course, as you can seriously injure yourself or others with it. If you drink, put your light saber away, as there are strict laws against drinking and using a light saber.
I have spent many more dollars on art work that just hangs on the wall and nobody notices it. Not the case with this light saber. This is a great and functional art work, a piece of Hollywood history, and a glimpse of the future, all for $100 - a great deal, and based on the used market, seems to hold about 65% of its value over the long haul. I have it on display in my home theater and it is a great conversation piece and has a very high “gee, this is really cool” factor by anyone that picks it up. I took it to work (a bunch of engineers) and everyone loved it! OK, so you can’t melt through thick titanium blast doors with it (we tried) or cut through spacecraft hulls (just dulls the blade) with it, nor can you deflect enemy laser blasts with it (this requires mastery of the Force- duh) or cut up enemy battle droids. BUT, you can have a lot of fun with it! In a darkened room, this light saber really stands out and you feel like you are in the movie.
There is also perhaps an educational component to this light saber as well, as my inquisitive daughter wants to know how a light saber works (so we talk about lasers and crystals and power sources, and how this is the ultimate weapon of a Jedi and even good vs. evil). Remember, the unique thing about a light saber is that it requires mastery of the Force to align the crystals internally - that is why each light saber is unique to each Jedi. Or, if you are a weekend Jedi, like me, then you could just spend $100 on Amazon Prime and get one right away, albeit with reduced capability, and without having to master all that Force stuff. Plus, good luck finding a Jedi Master these days if you want to be a Padawan in training before you can build your own. Besides, Jedi training is very competitive these days and also very expensive with financial aid getting harder to qualify for, given the economic situation in our country right now. I hear Yoda makes like a bazillion dollars an hour teaching private Jedi classes! Everybody is in it for the money these days…
It is ever important in life to have fun and to not take yourself too seriously. If you are into Star Wars, then purchasing this light saber fits that advice perfectly. This is frivolous fun, fun, fun at its very best. Buy it, display it, use it, and enjoy it. I’m very happy with mine. Mmmm, now where did I put my Darth Vader helmet (my next purchase for Halloween perhaps?)? Enjoy.

I Own 2 MR lightsabers and neither has the weight that this one has. It’s way more heavy even without the batteries and it’s more solid. So those worried about cheap plastic construction like that was rumored… you can rest assure that it’s far from that.

I bought the Vader and Obi-Wan lightsabers for 2 boys (ages 5 and 8). They love them and play with them all the time. They were a little pricier on Amazon than other retailers but the convenience outweighed the difference for me. Absolutely no educational value whatsoever and I’m sure they won’t last a year, but worth every penny.
5 Stars Good price on a more realistic lightsaber
I bought all 4 versions of these lightsabers and they have been a huge hit in our house. This one glows (blue), makes humming sounds (one for idle and another for contact), and feels like a pretty durable toy (I have 3 young boys so it has to be pretty tough).
The only con I see with this toy is that the spring-loaded feature can be dangerous if it’s pointed at anyone because it just jumps right out, and the plastic on it is not some soft, cushiony sort of plastic so I know it could cause some damage.
Even so, it is a great toy and a great value for something that my young kids can enjoy with their dad.

Many times the lights in the room get turned off as light sabers light up. We gone thru a few light sabers already, these are holding up great and seem well made. It helps that the boys know the house rules on duelling.

My 8 year old son got this for Christmas, and its the coolest lightsaber! The sound effects are great, and the blade is as realistic as you can get. It has not broken yet in the hands of an 8 year old, so I think we are doing pretty good. It seems very well made. Hands down, if you are a mega Star Wars fan, you’ll love this lightsaber!

I purchased the construction kit some months ago and I for one am VERY pleased with it. Yes, it does make creaking sounds, yes, it doesn’t light up as well as the hundred dollar replicas, and yes, the blade is shorter, BUT.. YOU CAN DUEL WITH IT!!!!!! You don’t have to worry about damaging the intricate lights as you do with the others. You and your friends can fight and roll play to your hearts content. (Do not strike eachother!) I for one really like this kit and am attempting to get my friend to get one himself so we can fight as well. I think that the little “quirks” that this product has is DWARFED by the fun you can have with it. Just pick out what color you want and then customize your hilt, and have at it. It is VERY fun!. (And worth the price!)

Second, I need to thank Douglas Equils and the other reviewers for their reviews. I found them very helpful.
I just got my saber and I am very happy with it. I thought about getting one of the replicas, but I finally decided that I wanted one that I could build the way I wanted and not just a replica of one in the movies. If I wanted a more exact replica I would have gotten one of the other ones.
I live on the east coast and my saber took 4 days to get it from California. It was shipped the same day I ordered it. Outstanding service. On receipt I found that the saber was well packaged and protected. All parts were wrapped in plastic and encased in styrofoam. There were no damaged parts.
The overall length of the saber is about 39 inches long and the blade is about 26 inches long. As noted in other reviews the blade is about 6 inches shorter than the other MR Force FX sabers.
The saber is built around an aluminum core. The core contains the electronics and blade in a permanent assembly. The base end of the tube is threaded for the end cap. The front end has a lip which stops the forward movement of the emitter cap. This is the end to which the blade is attached. The hilt pieces are plastic and the emitter and base caps are machined aluminum. These pieces slide over the aluminum core. The plastic is of thick high quality plastic, however there are some mold lines. If you are into do it yourself it might be possible to duplicate them in metal. The silvered plastic pieces look like brushed gray satin aluminum and match the gray anodized aluminum emitter perfectly. Except for the round emitter and the end caps do not expect shinny metal.
At first I found that the plastic sleeves did creak. However, if you put a little 3 in 1 oil on the threads of the aluminum core you can snug the base cap down quite nicely and the creaking stops. In addition the oil will prevent stripping the threads and reduce the possibility of cross threading the end caps. But don’t put on too much oil. One drop will do. If there is creaking or looseness you can use one or two rubber 1-1/2 X 1-3/8 X 1/16 O-rings which you can find at any hardware store. These will tighten the hilt nicely and they also look good.
The lighting system as other reviews note is different from the other Force FX sabres. The blade is lit from the base. It is not bad, but not as bright as the others. On the other hand you can select the blade color–red,green or blue. I guess this is the trade off. If money were no object it would have been nice to have three removable blades with the standard Force FX lighting system. As it is it is bright enough for me and I like the ability to change colors.
So should you get this? Well that’s up to you. If you want a saber that you can customize it’s great. If you want something that’s closer to a movie replica then get one of the others. If I could only have one saber, this is the one I would get. With its limitations I have at least three different sabers and I like that.
5 Stars A surprisingly great toy!
My early teenage boys still play with this toy every day after owning it for a couple of months. Not for small children, it is a full sized lightsaber with proper balance and heft. Very well made and durable. The ability to change saber colors and handles along with the excellent built in sound effects are what really set this toy apart from others.

If you have ever wanted your own lightsaber, this is about as close as you can get. Like all FX lightsabers, the handle is made of proper metal so its a good replica rather than a toy. The blade lights up with LEDs so it is very bright and lights along the blade. The sound effects are the icing on the cake. They won’t stand up to a proper fight, but they can take a few knocks if you fancy a careful duel.
Everyone I know has thought the same about these things. The first impression is ‘well, thats a lot of money for a silly toy, I’m sure its a good replica but who needs it really’. However, as soon as they get one in their hands and turn it on you can see them thinking ‘I have GOT to get me one of these’.
If you’ve already got one FX lightsaber, you don’t need another, but if you are tempted at all, trust me, you want one. Do shop around though as prices vary wildly. The blue Anakin/Luke saber is quite common and cheap, as is the red Vader one. The Obi wan and green luke sabers are discontinued and hard to find. Yoda’s is very small, and Darth Maul’s twin bladed verion is understandably expensive. The most expensive is the Mace Windu purple one that is usually twice the price of the others.

After waiting for countless years for a true lightsaber to hit the market, the day has finally come.
The Force FX Lightsabers are nothing short of amazing. While they aren’t actually made of laser, they’re probably the closest you’re going to get to a real lightsaber for a long long time. I own three of these bad boys, and I have to say that the Obi-Wan Kenobi lightsaber from Star Wars: Revenge Of The Sith is definitely my favorite.
The intense blue blade shines very brightly even in a lit room, but in a darkened room is where it can really take your breath away. The LED strip inside the blade shines through the very sturdy permanently attached polycarbonate blade beautifully. While the manufacturer suggests that dueling with these sabers is not a very good idea, you can do so if you use light taps. Indeed these sabers are intended to be collected, not fought with.
The hilt is beautifully crafted. I really like the hilt on the Obi-Wan Lightsaber because of the color variety that it features. The hilt allows for spinning, with a grip pattern placed on the middle of the hilt. The power button is the only slight problem I have with this saber. It protrudes out of the side of the hilt, which can get in the way of moving hands. Other than this, however, the saber has a great hilt.
Overall the Obi-Wan Kenobi Force FX Lightsaber is the best Force FX I have ever owned. I would recommend the Force FX series to any serious Star Wars fan looking to get his hands on the closest thing possible to a real Lightsaber.

I bought this light saber for my grandson for Christmas. It was a real hit with him as well as his whole family. During Christmas break from school he took it over to a friends house and his friends were very impressed. I’m so glad I bought it for him - the look on his face when he opened the package was priceless.

I bought this for my husband for christmas last year and YES he still takes it outside and acts like a child. HE LOVES it and the other adult guys love it too. Great gift for an adult guy who still thinks he’s a kid!

They (I also bought an Anakin blue) live up to what I expected. The red isn’t as bright as the blue one, as expected, but it still looks very good, especially in low light. I took a video in regular and very low lighting. On my machine, they really stand out. On my video they actually look like special effects! In the really low light, on video, they look like the movie.
The hilts are solid metal seem very durable. On the Vader one, there are a couple plastic pieces, like screws that strip easy (one seemed to just pull out). Those pieces aren’t very good, but everything else, including the black plastic on the top is pretty decent. The sound effects are good. Impact sound is almost to real-time. Very good. Light-up and down effects look great. Overall I am pretty impressed. You pay for it, hough. I thought I got a bargan and still paid in $80s for them. Still a good $20-$30 less than retail, even after 2-day shipping.
Note: The vader hilt is noticeably heavier than the Anakin. Not sure why.
